Trauma and Stress Reactions
When traumatic events happen, we naturally experience a variety of mental, physical, and emotional reactions. Most of the time, these reactions resolve over time as we using the coping skills we have to deal with the reactions and events.
Sometimes the event or events are just too much for our normal coping skills to handle. Not because we are weak or flawed! Maybe our normal coping skills aren't the right tools for this kind of work, or we've slipped into unhelpful coping skills which are making the symptoms worse.
Trauma therapy involves working with thoughts and feelings about, and physical reactions to, the events in order to help you develop more helpful ways of handling the stress so you can stop being derailed by the past and move into the future.
